CSUN Closes Fall Season with 19th Place Finish at Ka'anapali Classic

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the 2016-17 season Sunday with a 19th place finish at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic host by Hawai'i at Ka'anapali Golf Course.
On Sunday, the Matadors matched their round two total of two-over 286 which left them at 26-over 878 for the tournament. CSUN finished tied with Hawai'i and Ball State in 19th place as No. 24 Clemson won the team title with a 26-under total of 826.
"Our goal was to get under-par as a team, but it is what it is" said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "The positives were we didn't give up ground and we gained two spots. This tournament was a learning experience, I know were a talented team we just need to find a way to fire on all cylinders."
Individually, junior Felix Mory was the Matadors' low scorer for the third time in four fall tournaments. Mory, who was tied for 18th through 36 holes, slipped nine spots following a final round even-par 71. In finishing tied for 27th at one-under 212, Mory posted rounds of 73-68-71.
Trym Falch was the next highest CSUN finisher despite finishing 78th, 51 spots behind Mory in the 132-player field. Falch closed with his best round Sunday, firing an even-par 71. After an opening round 78, the junior carded rounds of 72-71 to finish at eight-over 221.
Tomas Skajem struggled to a final round seven-over 78 to drop from 59th to 102nd. Skajem wound up posting rounds of 75-72-78 to finish at 12-over 225. Seniors Tavit Garabedian and Sam Engel finished in a tie for 115th at 18-over 231. Garabedian finished with rounds 82-74-75 while Engel had his best round on Sunday with a two-under 69.
CSUN is off from tournament action until the end of January when the Matadors will tee it up at Cal State Fullerton's Folino Invitational.
