Matadors Sweep Colorado State In Las Vegas

CSUN Returns Home Mar. 5 for Match with Fresno State
LAS VEGAS --- The CSUN women's tennis team (4-6) defeated Colorado State (3-5) Â 7-0 Saturday morning at UNLV. The Matadors rebounded sharply from a loss to the host UNLV Rebels with a commanding victory over the Rams to wrap up their time in Sin City.Â
"We did a much better job of converting game points today," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "Our doubles group came out with outstanding energy and that helped us set the tone for the day."Â
In doubles action, Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu got the Matadors off to a solid start, cruising to a 6-0 victory in the top doubles draw. Vivian Lin and Skyla Alcon then posted a 6-1 decision in the No. 2 draw to give the Matadors the early 1-0 advantage.Â
In singles action, CSUN won five of the six matches in straight sets. Hsu lost just four games over two sets in her top singles draw while Lin won at No. 2 by also dropping just four games over the two sets. At No. 3, Poei posted a 6-4, 6-2 win while Kiryang Kim won 6-3 and 6-2 in the fourth draw.Â
Alcon lost just three games in her fifth draw, recording a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Finally, Mari Taslagyan won the first set and overcame a loss in the second to win in a third-set tiebreaker after the match's final results had already been determined.Â
CSUN returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 5 with a home match against Fresno State. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. from Matador Tennis Complex.Â
