Skyla Alcon Wins No. 4 Singles Match for CSUN
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (4-7) lost 6-1 to No. 22 Fresno State Saturday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. Freshman Skyla Alcon won her No. 4 singles match in straight sets, but the nationally ranked Bulldogs captured five of the six singles matches and two doubles contests to earn the victory.Â
CSUN fell behind 1-0 early in the contest as the Bulldogs won the first two doubles matches to finish. In singles, Alcon won 7-6 (7) and 6-4 in her No. 4 draw to earn the Matadors' their only point of the match. Otherwise, Fresno State rallied for straight-set victories in the five other singles contests.Â
CSUN head coach Gary Victor was happy to see his rookie from Hawai'i pick up a win against a tough competitor.
"Skyla is only getting better with each practice and match she plays," Victor said. "We can really see her confidence growing and a result like today's will only continue to build that confidence."Â
The Matadors return to action on Saturday, Mar. 6 with a contest against Western Michigan at 1 p.m. at The Kramer Club in Palos Verdes, CA.Â
