NORTHRIDGE, CA - After opening with a team round of 315, the CSUN women's golf team carded a second round 302 and moved up six spots to 10th after two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The second round 302 is a single shot off the Matadors' season-low of 301 which came at the season opening Hobble Creek Invitational. At 617, CSUN is 10th in the 16-team field.
"We posted a solid second round to slide up the leaderboard," said Matador head coach Gina Umeck. "Still we know we don't want to play a two round tournament. There's lots of golf to be played tomorrow."
Freshman Ysabel Tran heads into the final just four shots off the lead as she carded rounds of 73-72 and is tied ninth at one-over 145. Tran, seeking her fourth top-10 finish, was three-under after 13 holes in the second round and was still at two-under heading into her final hole of the day. But a double bogey seven on the par-five first dropped her to even-par.
Senior Arinda Bhanaraksa also had a solid two rounds as she is tied for 26th at seven-over 151. Bhanaraksa opened Monday with a 77 before posting a two-over 74 in the afternoon round to move up 15 spots. Shenna DeLeon is currently tied for 58th at 14-over 158 following rounds of 81-77, Cake Phuchanbanchob is tied for 76th at 19-over 163 after posting rounds of 84-79 and Cesilie Hagen is 84th at 25-over 169 following rounds of 87-82.
UCLA leads a stacked field that features eight ranked schools among the 16 teams competing. The Bruins are at even-par 576 and carry a 10 shot lead over Arizona State into Tuesday's final round. UCLA's Lilia Vu is at three-under 141 and has a one shot lead in the individual race.
Tuesday's final round gets underway for the Matadors at 7:45 a.m.
