Junior Kristen Poei Wins Matadors' Lone Point vs. 49ers
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (1-3, 0-1 Big West) lost 6-1 to Long Beach State in its Big West Conference opener Friday at the Matador Tennis Complex. Junior Kristen Poei picked up the Matadors' only point of the match, winning her singles match at the sixth draw in straight sets.Â
Facing the reigning Big West Tournament Champions, CSUN fell behind early after losing both of the doubles matches. Both matches finished at 6-3 in the 49ers' favor.Â
In singles, Poei won 6-2 and 7-6 (3) over the 49ers' Georgie Sanders in the sixth draw. Poei is now 2-2 on the season in singles action.Â
Mickey Hsu, who won Big West Conference Player of the Week, took her match against Maeva Razakasoa to three sets, winning the second set 6-1. However, with the match determined, the two played a tiebreaker for the third and final set and Razakasoa prevailed.Â
CSUN returns to action with another Big West Conference match Saturday, hosting the UC Riverside Highlanders at the Matador Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for noon.Â
