CSUN Earns First Big West Win of 2016
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (2-3, 1-1 Big West) defeated UC Riverside 6-1 Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference match at Matador Tennis Complex. The Matadors won the first two doubles matches and then claimed five singles victories to post their first conference win of the season.Â
On a very windy day in the San Fernando Valley, the Matadors rebounded sharply from a loss to Long Beach State on Friday.
Junior Vivian Lin and freshman Skyla Alcon started things quickly, winning their No. 2 doubles draw 6-1. Sophomore Kiryang Kim and junior Mari Taslagyan then scored a 6-3 decision in the third draw to give CSUN the early 1-0 advantage.Â
In singles action, Mickey Hsu cruised to a win in her No. 1 draw by losing just three games over two sets (6-1, 6-2). Lin also scored a straight-set victory at the second draw and at the third draw, Alcon won her first career match as a Matador.Â
Taslagyan was successful for the second time this season with a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the fifth draw. At No. 6, Kristen Poei won for the second-straight day and the third this season with a straight-set victory.Â
CSUN returns to action with a match at UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 13. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.Â
