Junior Mickey Hsu Posts Wins in Singles and Doubles for Matadors
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (7-8, 2-1 Big West) defeated Cal Poly 6-1 in a Big West Conference match at Matador Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon. Junior Mickey Hsu was one of four Matadors to win in straight sets in singles play and the Matadors swept the two doubles matches that finished to post a big win in their return to conference action.Â
"We have continued to improve all season after a challenging schedule of ranked opponents early in the year," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We played with a lot of passion and intensity today and I think that will serve us well as we head down the home stretch towards the Big West Tournament."Â
Hsu and teammate Kristen Poei posted a 6-4 decision in the No. 1 doubles match for their second win of the week. Vivian Lin and Skyla Alcon took a 6-1 decision in the second draw to give CSUN an early 1-0 advantage.Â
In singles, Alcon won for the fifth time in her last six singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the third draw. Junior Mari Taslagyan was second to finish and won 6-3, 6-2 to improve to 8-6 on the season. Kiryang Kim picked up her second win of the week with a 6-0, 6-2 decision to clinch the match for CSUN in the fifth draw.Â
Hsu was fourth to finish in singles action, winning 6-3 and 6-3 to improve to 8-6 in singles play. Lin would conclude the match with a three-set victory in the second draw and Poei lost in a third-set tiebreaker.Â
CSUN returns to action withe another Big West Conference contest, traveling to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Mar. 26. First serve from Orange County is slated for 11 a.m.Â
