Sophomore Kiryang Kim Continues Solid Play in Singles
FULLERTON, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (7-9, 2-2 Big West) lost 5-2 to Cal State Fullerton in a BIg West Conference match. Kristen Poei and Kiryang Kim each recorded singles wins for the Matadors, but the host Titans took the doubles point and then captured three of the first four singles contests to earn the league victory.Â
Kim continued her hot play in singles action, winning in straight sets to post her third-straight victory and fourth in her last six matches. She improved to 5-8 overall and 2-2 against league opponents for the season. Â
She and teammate Mari Taslagyan also won in doubles, capturing their No. 3 draw in a 6-2 decision. The tandem improved to 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in Big West play.Â
Poei won her No. 4 draw to improve to 7-6 overall and 3-1 against BIg West foes for the season. She and teammate Mickey Hsu lost their No. 1 doubles match 7-5 while Skyla Alcon and Vivian Lin also fell 6-5 in their No. 2 doubles draw.Â
The Titans took straight-set victories in the first, second, third and sixth draws in singles competition.Â
CSUN returns to action on Wednesday, Mar. 30 with a non-conference match against Cal State Los Angeles. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. and the Matadors will honor their senior, Leslie Chang, before the start of the match.Â
