Matadors Honor Leslie Chang, Jessica Warren Before Match
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (8-9) defeated Cal State LA 6-1 at Matador Tennis Complex. On Senior Day, in which CSUN honored its two graduating seniors: Leslie Chang and Jessica Warren, the Matadors posted an impressive victory as they head down the final stretch of their schedule towards the Big West Championships.Â
Wednesday's home finale was a chance for the Matadors to honor their two graduating seniors in a pre-match ceremony. Both Warren and Leslie are multi-year letterwinners for the Matadors and head coach Gary Victor and assistant coach James Ciuffo. They have excelled on the court and in the classroom throughout their Matador careers.Â
In doubles play, the Matadors swept the three matches to grab an early 1-0 advantage. Junior Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei improved to 7-8 in doubles action with a victory in the top doubles draw. In the No. 2 doubles draw, freshman Skyla Alcon and junior Vivian Lin moved to .500 on the season (8-8) with a win while junior Mari Taslagyan and sophomore Kiryang Kim improved to 8-3 with a win in the third draw.Â
In singles action, Hsu won her No. 1 draw in straight sets to move to 9-7 on the season. Lin won her second singles draw to move to 5-11 and Alcon improved to 8-7 on the season with a win in the No. 3 draw.Â
In the second half of the singles draw, Kim cruised to a straight-set victory in the No. 4 draw while Taslagyan posted a three-set victory in the fifth draw to improve to 9-7 on the season. Chang competed in the sixth draw, but ultimately came up short.Â
The Matadors now open a stretch of play away from the San Fernando Valley and all against Big West Conference opponents. CSUN faces UC Santa Barbara on Friday, April 1 and then travels to Honolulu to face Hawai'i on April 8. The Matadors close out the regular season at UC Irvine on April 16 and at UC Davis on April 23 before traveling to Indian Wells, CA to compete in the Big West Championship from April 27-30.Â
