Matadors Claim Doubles Point and Three Singles Matches
PALOS VERDES, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis (5-7)Â team defeated Western Michigan 4-3 in a neutral-site contest at the Kramer Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. CSUN earned the victory over the Broncos thanks to a 2-0 sweep in doubles play and three singles victories.Â
"We played a very tough team today and matched their toughness," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "Our doubles energy was strong and that gave us a great lift to start the match. Kristen and Mickey continue to be an awesome force at the top of our doubles line-up and Mari and Skyla came back from second-set deficits in singles action and really stepped up in the moment."Â
In doubles, Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei took a 6-4 decision in the top draw. Vivian Lin and Skyla Alcon then posted a 6-1 victory in the second match to give the Matadors the early, and ultimately decisive, edge against a Western Michigan team that fell to 10-5 with the loss.
In singles, Hsu won a three-set match in the No. 1 draw: 6-2, 2-6 and 6-1 to clinch the match for the Matadors. Alcon posted a straight-set victory at No. 4 and Mari Taslagyan posted a 6-3, 7-5 decision in the fifth draw.Â
The Matadors return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 9 with a home match against Furman University. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.Â
