Serafina Maulupe Scores Career-High 28 Points in Win
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (9-11, 2-4 Big West) defeated UC Santa Barbara 75-61 Wednesday evening in a Big West Conference game at The Matadome. Junior Serafina Maulupe scored a career-high 28 points, sophomore Cheyenne Allen came off the bench to add a career-high 21 points and sophomore Channon Fluker had a career-high seven blocks as CSUN snapped a four-game losing streak with the win over the Gauchos.Â
The Matadors came out firing on all cylinders and Maulupe led the charge early. She had 19 points in the first half, finishing 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from downtown. Maulupe concluded the game 10-of-21 from the field, setting a new career best in field goals, en route to her second-straight game setting a new personal for points. She added three rebounds in 34 minutes of work and is averaging 13.1 points for the season.Â
Allen was an efficient and effective 6-of-9 from the field and added a career-high eight free throws in 32 minutes off the bench. She just missed her first career double-double, adding nine rebounds and three assists to her final line. Allen easily cruised past her previous career best of 14 points, which came earlier this season in a win at Northern Arizona.Â
Fluker was a force inside, swatting seven shots to set a new career high. She added 16 points and 11 rebounds to produce her 12th double-double of the season. For the year, Fluker is averaging 15.3 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.Â
CSUN jumped out to a 19-10 lead after 10 minutes of work, shooting 64.3 percent from the field in the opening period. In the second, the Matadors pushed the advantage to 15 behind a 3-pointer from Maulupe. UCSB would cut the deficit down to seven at one point, but the Matadors responded and took a 36-25 advantage into halftime.Â
In the second half, the Matadors forced an early Gaucho timeout as they maintained a double-digit lead. Maulupe pushed the advantage to 16 at one point before the Matadors settled for a 52-38 lead after 30 minutes of action. In the fourth, UCSB pressed and cut the deficit down to seven with 2:34 to play, but the Matadors responded with a 12-5 run to end the game.Â
