Matadors Face 49ers, Rainbow Wahine on The Blacktop

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (9-11, 2-4 Big West) closes out a four-game homestand with Big West Conference contests against Long Beach State and Hawai'i at The Matadome. On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Matadors host Long Beach State in a 7 p.m. contest and then face Hawai'i two days later in a 4 p.m. game. Last week, CSUN snapped a four-game losing streak with a 75-61 victory over UC Santa Barbara. Serafina Maulupe poured in a career-high 28 points, including 19 in the first half, and Channon Fluker added 16 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks. Sophomore Cheyenne Allen came off the bench to record a career-high 21 points in the victory as well.
This week brings a pair of challenges to CSUN in the forms of Long Beach State and Hawai'i. The 49ers are the current league leaders, having amassed a 6-1 record in Big West action thus far. LBSU features a potent senior class led by the team's top scorer in Madison Montgomery (10.7 ppg). The 49ers force opponents into an average of 20.2 turnovers per game.
Two days later, CSUN welcomes Hawai'i into the week with a 4-3 mark in Big West play and a season sweep of Cal Poly. In seven conference games, Sarah Toeaina is averaging a team-high 17.3 ppg on 53.2 percent shooting from the field. The Rainbow Wahine have also taken 38 more free throws than their opponents in league play.
