Freshman Hayley Tanabe Scores Career-High 21 Points in Defeat
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (8-8, 1-1 Big West) lost 79-68 to Cal Poly Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference game at Mott Athletic Center. A jump shot from Serafina Maulupe tied the game at 61-61 with 6:54 to play. From there, the Mustangs closed the game on a 18-7 run to clinch the victory.Â
Tanabe finished 7-of-16 from the field and added two rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes of work. Matthews also scored a career-high, finishing with 10 points to go with eight rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes.Â
Senior Emily Cole had 11 points off the bench, knocking down three 3-pointers to give her 112 for her career and tie her for sixth in program history. Cheyenne Allen was the fourth Matador to reach double-figures, scoring 10 points to go with three assists and five rebounds.Â
The Matadors finished at 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field and 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from 3-point range. The Mustangs shot 47.5 percent from the field (28-of-59) and 46.7 percent (7-of-16) from 3-point range.
