CSUN 14th After Opening Round of Bandon Dunes Championship

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN men's golf team posted a Sunday round of 296 and is in 14th place after the opening round of the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Old McDonald Course in Bandon, OR.
As a team, the Matadors were even through 16 holes but finished eight over on the final two holes to finish the day at eight-over 296.
"We played a decent round until the final two holes, but the holes we struggled on were not easy holes," said head coach Jim Bracken. "The guys were a little frustrated and I know we're a better team than how we finished today. The team is positive so hopefully tomorrow will be better for us."
Senior Sam Engel had three birdies and six pars on the front nine and was three under on the front nine. But a pair of bogeys on the back nine moved him to one-under 71 for the day as he is tied for 18th place.
Junior Felix Mory was four under through 16 holes with a team high five birdies before double bogeys on his final two holes dropped to even-par 72 for the round. Mory is currently tied with seven other players for 29th place.
Also for CSUN, Trym Falch carded an opening round four-over 76 and is tied for 64th, Tavit Garabedian is tied for 71st at five-over 77 and Tomas Skajem is tied for 80th at six-over 78.
Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech ;holds the round one individual lead at seven-under 65 while Oregon leads the team competition with a team score of 13-under 275.
CSUN will be paired with San Jose State, Seattle and Utah Valley for round two which tees off Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
