NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (14-10) continues its lengthy homestand with five games as part of the Matador Classic Mar. 17-20 at Matador Diamond. The Matadors will host Weber State, Northern Colorado, Quinnipiac, Bryant and Murray State with four games the first three days and then a CSUN-Murray State doubleheader on Monday, Mar. 20. Live audio with Brandon Marcus calling all the action on the CSUN Sports Network will be available for all five Matador games and all 14 contests will feature live stats. Saturday's game with Northern Colorado (11 a.m.) and Monday's doubleheader (11 a.m. start of game one) will be broadcast live on CSUN Sports Network and BigWest TV. Links for all multimedia services are available on the softball schedule page of GoMatadors.com.
After starting the season 1-6, the Matadors have been on a tear as of late and are 13-4 in their last 17 games. CSUN has seen both stellar hitting and pitching during the stretch and both Taylor Troost and Jessica Alexander recognized by the Big West Conference. The Matadors have posted three run-rule victories over that span, slamming their way past Boise State, Sacred Heart and North Dakota and also have wins over Weber State, CSU Bakersfield and Santa Clara. Â
Among the notable performances, Daphne Pofek tossed a no-hitter against Sacred Heart on Mar. 7, the 67th no-hitter in program history while Taylor Nate became just the fifth player in school history to reach 40 career stolen bases. Other action saw Katie Hooper move into ninth in Big West Conference history with 138 career RBIs while Taylor Glover is tied for fourth with 79 career stolen bases and needs eight more to vault into second.
This weekend will offer some additional challenges for CSUN as it prepares for the 2017 Big West Conference season. Quinnipiac, Northern Colorado and Bryant have already faced a host of Big West Conference teams as they have been in California for extended roadtrips. Murray State is 22-4 on the season and Weber State, whom CSUN split a pair of games with at a tournament in Idaho earlier this season, is 12-10-1 on the year.
Next week, CSUN has some time off after hosting the Racers on Monday, Mar. 20 and returns to action with a doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, Mar. 26.
