Taylor Glover Hits Solo Home Run, Collects 2 RBIs
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (14-11) lost 5-3 to Weber State Friday morning in the opening game of the Matador Classic at Matador Diamond. Taylor Glover hit her fourth home run of the season and finished with two RBIs while Katie Hooper added an RBI double, but the Matadors' late rally fell short in the loss to the Wildcats.
Weber State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off CSUN starter Taylor Troost (5-4), although the sophomore left the bases loaded to end the inning. Hooper delivered a two-out double to left that scored Jessica Alexander. For Hooper, the double was her team-leading fifth of the season and 41st of her career.
The score remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth when Weber State edged ahead with a run. That set up Glover to blast her fourth deep fly of the season down the line in right to tie the game. She now has 20 home runs in her CSUN career.
In the sixth, Weber State added two runs and chased Troost from the circle. Rebecca Bell came in and got out of the inning with a double play. The Wildcats added an extra run in the seventh and CSUN tried to mount a rally in the bottom half of the frame.
Tara Kliebenstein collected a one-out single and moved to third on a single from Taylor Nate. She then scored on a sac fly from Glover but the Wildcats got the next batter out to end the game.
Troost allowed three runs, five hits and three walks in defeat to go with four strikeouts in five innings. Bell allowed four hits and two runs with a strikeout in two innings.
CSUN returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 18 with a contest against Northern Colorado. First pitch is scheduled for approximately 11 a.m. from Matador Diamond.
