CSUN Faces Three Regional Rivals in Idaho
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (6-8) takes its four-game winning streak to Idaho to compete in the Springhill Suites Invitational on the campus of Boise State from Mar. 3-5. The Matadors will take on the host Broncos twice as well as two games against the Weber State Wildcats. CSUN concludes its time in Boise with a game on Sunday against the Santa Clara Broncos. All five games will feature live stats with links available on the softball schedule page of GoMatadors.com.
- UPDATE: Because of anticipated inclement weather in the Boise area, this weekend's schedule has changed.
- All Games Will Be Played at Northern Nazarene University in Nampa, ID; No Games at Dona Larsen Park due to playing surface condition
- With the venue change, there will be no live video stream for any gameÂ
- The game schedule flipped Saturday and Friday's contests to try and get as many games in as possible
Last week, CSUN went 4-1 at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, CA. The Matadors got solid pitching throughout the weekend as CSUN limited opponents to a .163 batting average in 34 innings of work. Sophomore Taylor Troost went 1-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings of work, allowing just two base hits and holding opponents to a .061 batting average. Senior Rebecca Bell tossed five innings of one-hit softball in a win over Seattle and fellow senior Daphne Pofek posted victories over Sacramento State and Seattle at the event.
Offensively in Stockton, CSUN blasted six home runs and stole six bases. Senior Taylor Nate batted .400 with a double and a stolen base while Madison Fleming hit .308 with two runs, one home run, two RBIs and two sac bunts. Another senior, Karlie Habitz collected her first three hits and two RBIs of the season at the tournament.Â
Weber State is off to a 5-8-1 start through three weeks. The Wildcats are batting .279 as a team with 19 doubles, three home runs and 17 stolen bases. Opponents have batted .332 with 12 home runs in 90.1 innings of work. Finally, Santa Clara enters the weekend with a 3-8 record and a team batting average of .216 through three weeks. The Broncos have totaled 12 doubles and six stolen bases on the season while opponents are batting .272 with eight doubles and five home runs in 75 innings of work.
You Can't Handle the Troost -- Big West Pitcher of the WeekÂ
- Sophomore Taylor Troost won her second career Big West Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 27Â
- Named Big West Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 27 after going 1-0 with two saves and 0.00 ERA in 10 innings in Stockton
- Current 2-2 with a 3.07 ERA and 17 Ks in 27.1 innings of work with a .198 opponent batting average
- Recorded second shutout of the season, allowing just one hit in win at Pacific
- Tossed a complete-game shutout over Saint Mary's, scattering six hits and a walk with four strikeoutsÂ
- Named to 2016 Big West All-Freshman Team; Sported an 8-8 record with a 3.05 ERA in 119.1 innings of work
- Tossed No-Hitter vs. Idaho State on Mar. 18, 2016 going six innings with one walk and one strikeout
- Posted first career win against Utah State on Feb. 21, 2016 striking out a career-high 10 batters in seven innings

- Senior Daphne Pofek has been named one of 30 Candidates for Senior CLASS Award
- Currently 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA with 16 Ks in 35 innings with a .252 opponent batting average
- Went 2-0 with a 0.88 ERA and nine Ks in 16 innings of work with a .200 opponent batting average in Stockton
- Earned win over Northwestern with five innings of one-run work in relief
- Named 2016 First Team All-Big West and Third Team NFCA All-West Region
- Sported a 19-8 record with a 2.78 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 173.2 innings of work as a junior
- Finished 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA and 52 Ks in 104.2 innings vs. Big West foes
- Struck out a career-high 10 batters in 2016 season opener against Creighton
Ring That Bell
- Senior Rebecca Bell returned to the circle with vigor in 2016 and has continued that progress early in 2017
- Recorded first win of the season with five innings of one-hit softball vs. Seattle
- Leads team with a 2.14 ERA in 16.1 innings of work; 1-2 with a .250 opponent batting average
- Finished with a 3-4 record with a 3.73 ERA and an opponent batting average of .280 in 60 innings of work
- Posted first career win with complete game performance vs. Charleston Southern on Mar. 6, 2016
- Tossed first career shutout in win over San Diego in 2016, allowing just two hits and four runners over seven innings
- Picked up first career save with two innings of relief work in win over Utah State on Feb. 12, 2016
