Matadors' Match with Hofstra Canceled Due to Weather
BRONX, N.Y. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (8-8) defeated NYU 8-1 Friday afternoon. Playing Division III rules where each doubles match counts as an individual point, the Matadors swept the doubles play and won five of the six singles contests. The Matadors' match with Hofstra was canceled earlier in the day due to inclement weather on Long Island.Â
In doubles play, Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu improved to 6-5 on the season and won their 50th career match as a doubles tandem with an 8-3 decision in the No. 1 draw. Â In the second draw, Emma Roenholt and Skyla Alcon improved to 4-3 on the season with an 8-2 decision. Finally, the third draw saw Kiryang Kim and Elisa Elhadj post an 8-2 victory as Elhadj made her return to the court for the first time since January.Â
Singles competition opened with Hsu posting a 6-4, 6-4 decision in the No. 1 draw and the senior moved to 6-3 on the season. In the No. 2 draw, Kim improved to 7-4 on the season and won her third-straight match with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Alcon scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the fourth draw and is now 5-8 on the season. Poei won a 6-3, 6-0 decision in the fifth draw to post her team-leading eighth singles win of the season. Finally, Lin won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 match and is now 4-11 on the year.Â
CSUN now closes out its 2017 season with four-straight home matches against Big West Conference opponents. The Matadors are currently 2-2 in league play, having defeated UC Riverside and Cal Poly. The stretch starts Friday, Mar. 31 with a 2 p.m. contest against UC Davis and CSUN will then face UC Santa Barbara (April 2), UC Irvine (April 13) and Cal State Fullerton (April 15) before heading to Indian Wells, CA for the 2017 Big West Tournament from April 27-30.Â
