CSUN Tennis Posts Statement Win Over UC Irvine, 6-1

IRVINE, Calif --- The CSUN women's tennis team (11-6, 2-3 Big West) delivered a decisive performance on the road Saturday, defeating the UC Irvine Anteaters, 6-1, at the UC Irvine Tennis Stadium. Emma Moratalla Sanz, Nicole West, Satsuki Ishikawa, Tallia Harper, and Sandra Arguelles all won their singles matches.

The Matadors secured the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches to earn the victory over the Anteaters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Angela Ho and West defeated Haily Huynh and Amanda Perez, 6-1 on Court No.1, while Satsuki Ishikawa and Sofia Dermenjyan topped Bella Pitchford and Quin Brady, 6-3, on Court No. 3. Â

In singles play, the Matadors quickly took control. Arguelles cruised past Brady, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 to give CSUN a 2-0 lead. Ishikawa followed with a straight-set win over Pitchford, 6-4, 6-4, on Court No. 4.Â

"Today was a great day for the team," said Arguellas, "As always, playing doubles with Emma is the best, it's always fun and there's always something to learn. My singles match was amazing, I had really good feelings about my game and I enjoyed it a lot!"

"Sofia and I played together for the first time today, and we had a great match, said Ishikawa. "My singles match was tough, but I'm happy I could contribute to the team's victory. I'm proud of the team's performance today."

UC Irvine struck back as its lone point came at Court No. 1, where Yen Nhi Huynh defeated Ho in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). The win made it 3-1.

CSUN would then clinch the match at Court No. 5, Harper won with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Maily Huynh.

Moratalla Sanz clinched the match with a three-set hard fought win over Perez, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, at Court No. 2.Â

West capped the scoring for CSUN with a gritty comeback win over Haily Huynh, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), at Court No. 3.

NOTES OF THE GAME
CSUN will return home for a dual against Long Beach State on Saturday, April 11. Then, CSUN will play the next day against UC San Diego on April 12. Both matches will kick-off at 11:00 a.m.
