NORTHRIDGE, CA - Playing a six team, score five format, the CSUN men's golf team posted rounds of 375-357 and is in sixth place after 36 holes Monday at the Cal Poly Shootout at Cypress Ridge G.C. in Arroyo Grande.
At 12-over 732, the Matadors are five shots out of the top five while UC Santa Barbara carries an 18-shot lead into Tuesday's final round.
CSUN's Felix Mory is in contention for the individual title as the Matador junior is tied for fourth at five-under 139 (71-68). Mory had 22 pars over the first two rounds and is currently tied with three other players at four-under. The four players at 139 are six strokes behind leader Luis Medina of New Mexico State who sits at 11-under 133.
Mory's second round four-under 68 is one stroke off his season-low of the 67 he fired at the Del Walker Intercollegiate on Feb. 28.
Senior Sam Engel is bidding for his first top 20 finish of the season as he currently sits in a tie for 26th at four-over 148 (75-73). Junior Trym Falch posted consecutive rounds of 75 and is tied for 32nd at six-over 150 while senior Tavit Garabedian is tied for 35th at seven-over 151.
Garabedian opened with a round of 85 before bouncing back with a six-under 66 which is CSUN's low for 18 holes this season. He had a pair of eagles to lead the field, finishing seven-under on the par fives.
Also for the Matadors, Tomas Skajem is tied for 47th at 10-over 154 following rounds of 79-75 and Michael Zhang is tied for 54th at 14-over 158 after posting scores of 75-83.
"We didn't play real well in the first round but I was pleased with the way we rebounded in round two," said head coach Jim Bracken. "Having a 66 and a 68 in the same round really helps. I'm looking forward to a good team outing tomorrow but it's more about getting some positives going for the conference tournament."
The Matadors are scheduled to tee off the final round Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
