CSUN Heads North To Begin Dual Season

After a one-week delay, the CSUN women's tennis team opens the dual portion of the 2018 schedule this weekend with a pair of duals in Northern California.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—After a one-week delay, the CSUN women's tennis team opens the dual portion of the 2018 schedule this weekend with a pair of duals in Northern California.

The Matadors travel to San José State Saturday for a 12 p.m. dual. The Spartans are 1-1 after splitting a pair of duals last weekend at home. San José State hosts Division II Academy of Art on Friday before taking on the Matadors. This is the eighth time that CSUN and SJSU are playing in women's tennis with the Matadors leading the all-time series 5-2.

The weekend concludes Sunday at Santa Clara with an 11 a.m. start. The Broncos are 0-1 after falling 5-2 at UC Davis last Saturday. This is the sixth time that the teams are facing one another with Santa Clara leading the all-time series 3-2. Â

CSUN postponed the season opening dual at Westmont that was scheduled for Jan. 28 until March 28 in Santa Barbara. The Matadors concluded the regular season tournament portion of the slate Jan. 21 at the Long Beach State Winter Invitational. The Matadors battled throughout the tournament as five CSUN players had to sit out the tournament due to injuries.

Arpe Bagumyan, Elisaveta Nosenko, and Mari Taslagyan each recorded five victories during the tournament portion of the schedule to lead the team. Skyla Alcon and Monika Van de Vondel each won four times in individual play.
