The CSUN distance medley relay teams turned in top school marks on day one of the UW Invitational.

SEATTLE—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams returned to indoor competition Friday as the Matadors competed on day one of the University of Washington Invitational.
Men's Recap
CSUN turned in a strong showing in the 200m where Tjari Packard placed fifth in the 200m (:22.18). Teammate Parker Caston ran :22.20 and came in sixth. Chazz Warren's :22.77 was the 22nd fastest time in the field of 50.
The men's distance medley relay team of Mario Ramirez, Brenden Scott, Charlie Nettles, and Michael Merchan turned in the fourth fastest time in school history as the quartet went 10:09.42. The Matadors finished sixth in the event.
Manuel Vargas put up the third fastest time in school history in the 5000m. Vargas tallied at time of 15:07.39 as he came home 36th in a field of 54.
Women's Recap
Courtney Robinson won her heat and finished 10th in the 200m with a time of :25.02. Sydney Mosley won her 200m heat in a time of 25.75 while Kayla Pickens ran :26.58 in the event. The 200m featured a field of 102 competitors.
The distance medley relay team of Katie Alvarenga, Pickens, Sonsoles Barba, and Jasmine Vasquez recorded the fourth fastest time in school history, 12:21.55, to earn 15th in the event.
"Very productive would best describe today for our teams," said CSUN interim head coach Lawrence Johnson. "We set some specific goals for today's competition. We wanted to improve our DMR's and sure up some individual sprint and distance races. We are looking to improve incrementally as the season progresses."
The UW Invitational resumes Saturday. The field events are set for 10 a.m. while the first running event gets underway at 9 a.m.
