CSUN Claims Two First-Place Finishes and Sets Two School Records During Busy Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUNÂ Track & Field competed in three separate meets over a busy weekend of action. Two CSUN records would be broken on the weekend while a pair of men's athletes finished first in field events.Â
The Matadors began the weekend competing at the Pacific Coast Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State on Thursday while CSUN sent athletes to the 66th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, held from Thursday to Saturday, and to the Bryan Clay Invitational, held in Azusa from Thursday to Saturday.Â
Two Matador individual women's records would be broken on the weekend as Summer Mosley broke a 28-year old mark in the discus and Lilit Arakelyan reset the record book in the 3000m-steeplechase.
Jay Louison-Roe took first in the men's triple jump at the Mt. SAC Relays and freshman Matthew Browner claimed a share of first place in the high jump at the Pacific Coast Invitational.Â
TOP PEFORMERS AT MT. SAC RELAYS
Participating at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, the Matadors picked up a personal record from Louison-Roe who took first place with a leap of 15.81m (51-10.5). That jump also landed him in seventh place on CSUN's all-time top-10 list.Â
In the women's discus, Mosley registered a new personal best, claiming fourth overall in the event at 57.40m (188-4). That toss broke the Matador school record set by Cheree Hicks in 1998. In a separate discus event, Katherine Shipp-Davis was fourth overall with a toss of 50.76m (166-6).Â
Walter Pierce was fourth overall in the men's 400m, running at a time of 46.94. In other sprints, James Crawford represented CSUN in the 100m where he was eighth overall with a time of 10.50 while he was 11th in the 200m dash with his time of 20.76.Â
The women's 4x400m team of Trystin Mitchell, Makyla Jones, Brianna Wells and Serena Grace placed fifth overall with a time of 3:42.56.Â
In other field events, Elijah Ignacio led CSUN men's throwers in the discus with a toss of 51.49m (168-11) to place seventh followed by Kyriaun Davis in 10th place at 51.13m (167-9) and Isaiah Butler in 11th place at 50.48m (165-7). Davis would pace CSUN in the men's shot put with his mark of 15.94m (52-3.75). Tylor Connelly competed in the men's hammer throw elite event, taking seventh by reaching 64.35m (211-1). Finally, Layne Buck was 11th overall in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.99m (22-11.25).Â
In distance races, Ailani Valiente finished 13th in the women's 1500m, running at 5:14.79. Citlaly Ruiz was 11th in the 5000m with her time of 18:30.01 followed by Valiente in 13th place at 19:18.85.Â
Finally, Camryn Harris was 15th overall in the women's triple jump, leaping for a mark of 12.04m (39-6).Â
PACIFIC COAST INVITATIONAL TOP PERFORMERS
Browner set a PR in the men's high jump, clearing 2.06m (6-9) to pick up a share of first place with three other athletes. CSUN also had a strong showing in the men's triple jump with Aiydan Bague taking second overall with a PR of 14.76m (48-5.25). Tzu-Ting Chan was tied for eighth place in the men's long jump at 6.87m (22-6.5) while Bague was 12th at 6.76m (22-2.25) and Browner was 17th at 6.62m (22-8.75).Â
Ashleigh Porter would also finish second in the women's high jump, reaching a PR of 1.73m (5-8) followed by Jazmine Severo and Naomi Sachs who were both 12th at 1.63m (5-4.25).Â
Prior to her breaking the school record in the women's discus, Mosley set a then PR of 55.77m (183-0) to take fourth place while Shipp-Davis was 12th in the event, setting a PR of 52.61m (172-7). That mark for Shipp-Davis ranks seventh-best in CSUN history.Â
In throws, Connelly also competed in the men's hammer at the Pacific Coast Invite, placing 10th overall at 62.09m (203-8). Ignacio was 16th in the men's discus at 54.25m (178-0).Â
In men's sprints, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. took 15th place in the 100m with his time of 10.50. Jayden Smith finished 20th overall in the 400m at 48.74.Â
In women's sprints, Grace set a PR of 23.93 to take 15th place followed by Jones who also set a PR of 24.10 for a 20th-place finish. The quartet of Hannah Bridge, Amaya Rice, Jones and Grace were 10th overall in the 4x100m relay, posting a time of 46.02.Â
Finally in the women's shot put, Amani Britton registered a PR of 14.33m (47-0.25) to take 18th place.Â
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL TOP PERFORMERS
Arakelyan made CSUN history in the 3000m-steeplechase, running a PR time of 10:41.91 to break Rachel Naumann's record that stood since 2017. Arakelyan finished 56th overall in the competitive race.Â
Ami Jacobson took 11th place in the women's 10000m, posting a time of 37:24.86 followed by Nadia Munoz at 38:12.62 to place 21st and Brianna Torres at 38:37.12 to finish 22nd.Â
Thomas Achten took 14th place in the men's 10000m race on Thursday, running at 31:12.04. In the men's 1500 Open B race, Elijah Stenberg set a PR of 3:50.45 to finish 25th.Â
Finally, Raul Verges claimed 27th place in the men's 800m race on Friday, posting a PR of 1:52.63.Â

CSUN will return to the track next weekend to compete at the UC Santa Barbara Invite. The two-day meet will be held at Pauley Track from April 24-25.Â

Browner set a PR in the men's high jump, clearing 2.06m (6-9) to pick up a share of first place with three other athletes. CSUN also had a strong showing in the men's triple jump with Aiydan Bague taking second overall with a PR of 14.76m (48-5.25). Tzu-Ting Chan was tied for eighth place in the men's long jump at 6.87m (22-6.5) while Bague was 12th at 6.76m (22-2.25) and Browner was 17th at 6.62m (22-8.75).Â
Ashleigh Porter would also finish second in the women's high jump, reaching a PR of 1.73m (5-8) followed by Jazmine Severo and Naomi Sachs who were both 12th at 1.63m (5-4.25).Â

In men's sprints, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. took 15th place in the 100m with his time of 10.50. Jayden Smith finished 20th overall in the 400m at 48.74.Â
In women's sprints, Grace set a PR of 23.93 to take 15th place followed by Jones who also set a PR of 24.10 for a 20th-place finish. The quartet of Hannah Bridge, Amaya Rice, Jones and Grace were 10th overall in the 4x100m relay, posting a time of 46.02.Â
Finally in the women's shot put, Amani Britton registered a PR of 14.33m (47-0.25) to take 18th place.Â
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL TOP PERFORMERS
Arakelyan made CSUN history in the 3000m-steeplechase, running a PR time of 10:41.91 to break Rachel Naumann's record that stood since 2017. Arakelyan finished 56th overall in the competitive race.Â

- Two Matadors competed in a five-athlete field in the men's 3000m-steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays. Diego Rodriguez took third place at 9:48.41 while Omar Heredia was fourth at 10:05.07.Â
- Wiggins also competed in the men's 200m at Mt. SAC, taking 17th place at 21.35 followed by Daniel Harper who was 36th at 21.75.Â
- Chandler Smith finished 23rd in the women's long jump at Mt. SAC. Her best leap went for 5.64m (18-6).Â
- At the Pacific Coast Invite, Tui Edwin was 31st to lead CSUN in the men's shot put. His best throw went for 15.62m (51-3) while Francisco Isiordia was 40th at 15.30m (50-2.5).Â
- Terence Williams took 51st place in the men's 200m at 22.17 at Pacific Coast.Â
- In women's sprints at Pacific Coast, Bridge was 30th in the 100m, running at 11.92 while Rice was 40th at 12.01. Wells took 32nd place in the 400m at 57.21 followed by Mitchell in 33rd place at 57.26.Â
- At Bryan Clay, Adam Divinity set a PR of 3:57.08 in the men's 1500m where he was 52nd overall. Divinity also was 88th overall in the 800m event, running at 1:53.92.Â
- Camilo Torres finished 85th in the men's 5000m at Bryan Clay, posting a time of 15:22.88. Ramiro Mateos was in 89th place in the men's 3000m-steeplechase, clocking at 9:38.34.Â
- Kahlai Cruser recorded a PR of 2:19.52 in the women's 800m at Bryan Clay to finish 107th overall. Sakura Divecchio competed in the women's 1500m event, finishing 127th overall at 5:01.03.Â
