SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The CSUN Women's Volleyball team opened up a busy week Tuesday with a straight set loss to UC Santa Barbara in The Thunderdome. The Matadors will return home this weekend, looking to snap a three-match skid against UC Davis on Friday and UC Irvine on Saturday.
The 25-20, 27-25, 25-12 loss drops CSUN to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the Big West. The Mustangs have now won 13 straight to run their record to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
KEY STATISTICS

• Junior Morgan Salone hit a team-high .400 but only took five swings in the match.
• Junior setter Kamalu Makekau-Whittaker posted 18 assists and eight digs, her best assists total since handing out 23 against Southern Illinois in early September.

• CSUN hit .167 (30-15-90), UCSB hit .283 (39-11-99).
SET 1
The opening set was tied 10 times, the last at 18-18, when two straight UCSB points forced a Matador timeout at 20-18. A Nada Dragovic kill cut the lead in half before the hosts rallied for four straight points to open up a 24-19 lead. A Gaucho service error saved one set point before Rowan Ennis sent the hosts to the 25-20 win.
SET 2
A Gaucho ace gave the hosts an early 5-1 lead and UCSB extended the lead to five at 7-2 when Erin Indermill was whistled for a ball handling error. The Gauchos led by as many as eight  (19-11) when CSUN mounted a furious rally. A UCSB service error propelled the Matadors on an 9-0 run that gave CSUN its first lead (20-19) following a Nevarez/Salone block. The Matadors led 22-20 following a Gaucho hitting error and led again by two at 24-22 on a Nevarez kill. UCSB saved two set points before Nevarez connected again giving the Matadors a 25-24 lead. Owens attack was stuffed on the next point and Ruddins then served consecutive aces giving UCSB the 27-25 win. The Matadors out-hit the Gauchos .297 to .184 in the set.Â
SET 3
After a Ruddins service error pulled CSUN within 5-4, the Matadors were outscored 9-1 over the next 10 points to trail 14-5. CSUN could never cut the deficit to less than seven the rest of the way and fell 25-12.
