CSUN Ends MPSF's On A Strong Note

The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams finished strong at the MPSF's Saturday.

SEATTLE—CSUN completed action at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon.
MEN'S RECAP
The 4x400m relay of Tjari Packard, Ben Hibbert, Brenden Scott, and Parker Caston finished seventh in a time of 3:17.16. The quartet's time was the sixth quickest in school history. Joshua Turner finished eighth in the 60m hurdles with a time of :8.24.
Clint Meyer placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 59-8 1/2. Meyer's performance was the second best in school history. Other action saw Manuel Vargas run the 10th fastest 3000m time in school history (8:51.89).
CSUN would score 13 points to place 14th. USC won the team title with 107 points.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Courtney Robinson placed seventh in the 60m hurdles as she posted a time of :8.51 to earn CSUN its first points of the meet. Jasmine Pharms threw the shot put 50-1 3/4, the fifth best mark in school history to finish seventh.
In other competition, Katie Alvarenga ran the ninth fastest time in the mile run (5:11.32). Alvarenga was part of the distance medley relay with Samantha Mitchell, Sonsoles Barbara, and Jasmine Vasquez that tallied the sixth quickest time in school history (12:27.60). The Matadors scored four points to come in 18th in the field of 22. USC was the team champion (122).
"I thought our student-athletes performed well today," said CSUN interim head coach Lawrence Johnson. "We were able to accomplish a number of team and individual goals throughout this indoor season. We look forward to the outdoor season."
The CSUN outdoor campaign begins Mar. 10 when the Matadors host the CSUN All-Comers meet.
