NORTHRIDGE, CALIF. --- The University of Nevada defeated CSUN (4-3) in a non-conference women's tennis dual Saturday afternoon.
The Matadors opened the scoring by taking the doubles point. The Wolfpack's No.1 team, Blaga Delic and Claudia Herrero, who are ranked 52nd in Division I, defeated Elisa Elhadj and Alicia Dinkelmeyer, 6-4. The Matadors would earn the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Monika Van de Vondel and Skyla Alcon earned the win for the Matadors at No. 2 doubles as the CSUN duo defeated Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Adriana Gergelyova 6-1. Kiryan Kim and Mari Taslagyan defeated Lili Fekete and Maria Tatarnikova, 6-2.
Â
Herrero would go on to defeat Van de Vondel 6-3, 6-3 at No.1 singles to even the score 1-1. Alcon defeated Delic 6-4, 6-4 at No.3 singles to give the Matadors the lead. Elhadj would add on to the lead at No. 2 singles by defeating Gergelyova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Â
However, Nevada would not go away easily. Fekete defeated Dinkelmeyer 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to cut the lead in half at No.5 singles. Gorbacheva would go on to beat Taslagyan 6-3, 6-4 at No.6 singles to even up the dual score at 3-3 heading into the final match. Melissa Huchet defeated Kiryan Kim 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No.4 singles to secure the win for Nevada.
Â
"We have to get better and play big moments better." said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "I was really impressed with Skyla [Alcon] today, I thought she came to play, but Nevada was tougher than our players today. It's not a match we should lose and we let them off the hook."

The Matadors (1-4, 1-1 Big West) return to Big West action next Saturday when CSUN travels to UC Davis (7-3) at 11 a.m.
