SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Santa Clara defeated CSUN 4-1 in a women's tennis dual Sunday afternoon.

The Matadors took the doubles point. The CSUN No. 2 pair of Kiryang Kim and Mari Taslagyan defeated Madison Clarke and El Tawil Zeina 6-3. At No. 3, Skyla Alcon and Arpe Bagumyan earned a 6-3 decision over Elvena Gevargiz.

The Broncos (1-2) got on the board at No. 5 singles when Gevargiz defeated Bagumyan r 6-1, 6-0. Santa Clara took the lead at No. 2 singles as Maddie Pothoff defeated Kim 6-0, 6-3. Nadine Del Carmen put SCU up 3-1 as she posted a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles against Scout Shutter. The Broncos clinched the dual at No. 1 singles. Clarke dropped the opening set to Monika Van de Vondel 6-4 before tying the match 6-0 in set two. Clarke charted the victory 6-1 in the third and deciding set. Taslagyan was up a set at No. 4 singles against Katya Tabachnik before the dual was secured by Santa Clara.

"We again came out with excellent energy in doubles and won the big points that we didn't against yesterday," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "We fought in singles with a depleted lineup and competed for every point. We are working through the adversity of our injury situation with toughness and grit. We are looking forward to seeing this group grow together."

The Matadors (0-2) host their first home dual next Sunday when CSUN opens Big West play against Cal Poly (2-1). First serve is set for 11 a.m.
