NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams combined to win 18 times during Saturday's Northridge Invitational Saturday

MEN'S RECAP
The Matadors enjoyed a successful day, winning 12 times. Here is a breakdown of the CSUN individual champions;
Joshua Turner (110m hurdles, :14.85).
T'Jari Packard (100m, :11.15)
Mario Ramirez (800m, 1:52.86)
Manuel Vargas (3000m, 8:52.89)
Matthew Arnold (long jump, 23-11 3/4/triple jump 48-11)
Mark Nicolas and Logan Cantrell tied for first in the pole vault. (15-5 1/2)
Daniel Swarbrick (discus, 172-3)
Clint Meyer (shot put, 57-5)

Erick Loomis (hammer, 211-4). Loomis reset the school record in the event with his toss. He broke the old record of 207-10 that was set by Tim Selby in 2005.
The 4x400m relay of Packard, Ben Hibbert, Ramirez, and Parker Caston Jr. won the race in a time of 3:24.87.

Micahel Merchan (3:49.68) finished second in the 1500m. Merchan's time was the 10th fastest in school history. James Siva (3:56.25), James Atwell (4:02.69), and Julian Silva (4:12.80) placed fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively in the race.

Caston turned in a second place showing in the 400m (:48.36) while Brenden Scott (:50.97) was eighth. Hibbert finished second in the 400m hurdles (:58.86.) and fifth in the 200m (:22.26).

Armon Hunter placed second in the discus (165-0) and was followed by Erick Loomis (160-5). Daniel Fendrich was third in the 800 (1:57.03). Turner later came home third in the long jump by posting a leap of 23-0 3/4. Â Packard was sixth in the 200m (:22.29).

WOMEN'S RECAP
The CSUN women enjoyed a successful Saturday as the Matadors won six times. Here is a breakdown of the Matador wins;

Katie Alvarenga (800, 2:21.41)
Sydney Berry (Triple Jump (41-1 1/2). Berry's performance was the seventh best in school history.
Gardenia Centanaro (Pole Vault, 12-8 3/4)
Brandy Williams(Shot Put, 52-6). Williams' performance was the sixth best in school history.
Elena Lopez (Discus, 131-8)
The 4x400m relay of Samantha Michell, De'Andreah Young, Sonsoles Barba and Kayla Pickens won the race in a time of 3:52.86.  Â
Jasmine Vasquez and Alvarenga went 2-3 in the 1500m. Vasquez ran 4:45.20 while Alvarenga posted a time of 4:47.39. Â Vasquez would place second in the 800 (2:21.72). Beth Rossi (12-4) was second in the pole vault followed by Kelsi Dunne (10-10 1/4). Kelly McGiffney came in second in the javelin (118-4).
Jasmine Pharms (49-9) finished second in the shot put. She was followed by Lopez (43-5 3/4) in the event. Berry later placed seventh in the 100m (:12.67). Ty Wallace finished second in the triple jump (38-10 1/4). Sydney Mosley came in second in the 100m hurdles in a time of :13.85.
Taranique Alexander finished second in the long jump (18-9 3/4) and was fourth in the 100m hurdles (:15.45). Taren Hayward earned third place in the triple jump (36-10 1/4).
Kimberly Newton turned in a fourth-place finish in the 3000m (10:59.33). Freshman Heidi Eligio was fourth in the 800m (2:29.77) and fifth in the 1500m (5:00.46).
"Today was a fantastic start to our competitive outdoor season," said CSUN interim head coach Lawrence Johnson. "I thought our student-athletes competed well and I feeel encouraged for the future by the way we competed this weekend."
The Matadors will compete at both the Stanford Invitational (Mar. 30-31) and the California Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 31 at UC San Diego) next weekend.
