The final doubles match went to the Penguins as Cassandra Moraleja and Lucia Zagar defeated Arpe Bagumyan and Scout Shutter 6-3.
Singles play opened with Youngstown State's Longi Naimba defeating Alcon 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Van de Vonde then got CSUN on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Sofia Macias at No. 2. The No. 3 match also went to the Matadors as Dinkelmeyer topped Anastasiia Khokhlova 6-4, 6-3.
The Penguins kept their hopes alive when Teufl defeated Bagumyan 7-6, 6-4 at No. 5 but Shutter defeated Moraleja at No. 6 (6-3, 6-4) to clinch the CSUN win. Taslagyan closed the dual with a three-set win at No. 4.
"The really was a win from the heart," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "For Scout, who just returned in January after going through shoulder and knee surgeries, to clinch the match is definitely one of the most memorable wins we've ever had. Youngstown State is a team that's been in the NCAA Tournament the last four years so this is a satisfying win for us."
CSUN continues its four-match homestand next Wednesday (Mar. 14) as the Matadors host Drake at at 2 p.m.
