HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The CSUN beach volleyball team lost twice Friday and was eliminated from the team competition at the 2018 Big West Tournament at Queens Beach.
The Matadors, seeded fourth in the six-team field, were upset by fifth-seeded CSU Bakersfield in the opening round (3-2) before falling to No. 2 seed Cal Poly in an elimination match (5-0) Friday afternoon.
"It's disappointing to go out of the tournament so early, as I thought our progress and preparation would lead to a different result today," said CSUN Head Coach Noelle Rooke. "Still you can't take anything away from the great season we had as each player worked really hard to accomplish all that we did."
CSUN finishes the season with a 17-8 overall record, setting a program record for most wins in one season. The Matadors' top two pairs, Katie Sato and Aeryn Owens along with Kristey Markle and Nickeisha Williams will represent CSUN in the Pairs Championship Tournament on Sunday.

Aleksandra Djordevic and Briannah Mariner then made it 2-0 Roadrunners after sweeping Lauren McMurray and Autumn Russell 21-10, 21-15.

Nicolette Pinkney and Lauren Conati kept CSUN alive with a 21-18, 21-17 victory over Ally Barber and Sidney Wicks setting up the decisive No. 2 match.
