CSUN Impressive in Final Big West Tuneup

MARICOPA, Ariz. - The CSUN women's golf team matched its low tournament total of the season Tuesday while posting a top-10 finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
In their final tournament before the Big West Championship (Apr. 15-17), the Matadors posted rounds of 296-298-294 to finish at 888, which matches their low for 54 holes this season. CSUN was 11th after the first round, tied for seventh after round two and ultimately finished tied for sixth, just two shots out of the top five in the 20-team field.
The Matadors' final round 294 tied for the fourth lowest round of the day.
"Posting one of the best rounds of the day today felt good for all," said CSUN Head Coach Gina Umeck. "Everyone is contributing, this is what we've been working towards all year and it's happening at a great time."
Senior Shenna DeLeon posted the best 54-hole tournament score of her CSUN career, finishing tied for 25th at five-over 221. DeLeon carded rounds of 74 and 73 on Monday before finishing with a two-over 74 on Tuesday. Sophomore Alice Duan finished in a tie for 30th at six-over 222 following rounds of 78-74-70. Duan's final round 70 was her third round of 70 this season and lowered her team-leading stroke average to 75.5.
Kayla Yn and Michelle Duan each tied for 34th at seven-over 223. Yn carded rounds of 71-77-75 while Duan's 223 (74-74-75) was her low tournament score of the season while her two rounds of 74 were also a season-low for 18 holes.
Brooke Hamilton rounded out the Matador scoring, finishing tied for 87th at 19-over 235 (77-82-76).
CSUNÂ is next on the course Apr. 23-25 as the Matadors head to Strawberry Farms G.C. for the Big West Championship.
