NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUNÂ beach volleyball team continued to roll at home as the Matadors picked up a pair of 5-0 wins over Vanguard and Concordia-Irvine in a Thursday tri-dual at the Matador Beach Volleyball Facility.
With the two home wins, CSUNÂ improved to 8-2 on its home sand and pushed its season record to 13-5.
"I think the girls were trying to recuperate this week after playing five matches in two days last weekend," said CSUNÂ head coach Noelle Rooke. "I'm just glad we were able to persevere in a couple of the matches today and get 6-0 and 5-0 wins. As lethargic as we were this week, I'm proud that we were able to get a pair of clean sweeps today."
The tri-dual opened with the Matadors taking on Vanguard, a team they swept at home to open the season on Feb. 28.
Shawnee De Oliveira and Cassidy Rosso made quick work of Mackenzie Mitchell and Angel Carroll in the No. 6 pair as CSUNÂ won 21-13, 21-8. The Matadors then picked up the first point in the dual at No. 2 as Kristey Markle and Nickeisha Williams topped Kelli Dowell and Hannah Holder 21-9, 21-8.
After Nicolette Pinkney and Lauren Conati swept the No. 4 match 21-18, 21-8, CSUN clinched the win after the No. 5 match went final as Erin Indermill and Daniella Molinari won 21-11, 21-9. Katie Sato and Aeryn Owens then won 21-19, 21-10 on center court at No. 1 before the Matadors completed the sweep as Lauren McMurray and Autumn Russell held off Dani Erdelatz and Charity Dennis 17-21, 21-19, 15-6 in the No. 3 pair.
After Concordia swept Vanguard in the middle dual (5-0), CSUNÂ defeated the Eagles 5-0 with two of the five matches going three sets.
Pinkney and Conati improved to 12-5 on the season, claiming the first point of the afternoon 21-15, 21-7 over Jess Diedrich and Asia O'Neil. Markle and Williams also won for the 12th time this season as the CSUN pair were pushed but won the No. 2 match by the score of 21-15, 20-22, 15-13.
Indermill and Molinari were in the clinching match again for the Matadors, picking up a 21-16, 21-6 win over Julia DenBoer and Kelela Hendrickson at No. 5. McMurray and Russell had to go the distance for the second time Thursday as they held off Marcela Frazzoni and Jaclyn Brown 14-21, 21-9, 15-13 in the No. 3 match.Â
Sato and Owens then completed the sweep as the Matadors' No. 1 pair improved to 13-5 on the season with a 21-17, 21-15 victory over Tristan Self and Vanessa Bernzen.
