The first 15+ minutes of the match were played primarily in the middle of the field before UCLA earned a pair of corner kicks 1:12 apart beginning in the 18th minute. CSUN was able to record a pair of corner kicks in the final 15 minutes, but UCLA not give up Matadors' shot attempt until the 40:30 mark when Giovanni Aguilar's try was blocked. The Bruins took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Â
The Matadors mounted a charge early in the second half. Daniel Trejo took a shot early that was saved by Justin Garces. Garces knocked the ball off the cross bar which resulted in a CSUN corner. The Matadors put the ball towards the net which looked to be going into the UCLA net. The ball was knocked away at the last moment. The ensuing Bruins' attack would end up in a Mohammed Kamara shot that was saved by Regitnig.
Â
Kamara would have his second shot of the match blocked in the 56th minute. Aguilar would attempt his second shot of the match in the 59th. Like Kamara, Aguilar would have his shot blocked. The Bruins failed to clear, as CSUN took advantage of the turnover. Rodriguez worked his way towards the UCLA net where he passed to Trejo. With space, Trejo scored his fifth goal of the year at 65:30 to put CSUN up 2-1.
Â
The Bruins settled down. UCLA would work the ball to Frankie Amaya who had an attempt blocked off a CSUN player for a corner.
