SAN DIEGO, Calif - The CSUN women's tennis team competed in its largest tournament to date in the fall season, the ITA Southwest Regionals this past weekend.
"The highlight of regionals was Jolene and Ana having two match points vs UCLA (which ended 8-7 (1) in favor of the Bruins)." said head coach Gary Victor. "One of the UCLA's players, Abigail Forbes, won Jr. Wimbledon doubles this year. Proud of how composed they were against one of the world's best junior players."Â
In the singles portion of the tournament, after a first-round bye, junior Ekaterina Repina won a hard fought, three-set battle with Loyola Marymount's Siobhan Anderson (2-6, 6-2, 6-2). Repina would fall in the next round to Natasha Pueshe of Grand Canyon University (6-2, 6-3).Â
For the doubles part of the regionals, Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso bested a conference foe in Hawai'i's Rebecca Ehn and Sohpia Storch, 8-1. The pair would fall in their next bout to UCLA's Abbey Forbes and Annette Goulak, 8-7 (1).
The next competition for the Matadors will be November 1. at the Hawai'i Fall Invitational in the city of Manoa.Â
