Matadors Fire Second Round 299 at Rainbow Wahine Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawai'i - After an opening-round 320 on Monday, the CSUN Women's Golf team fired an 11-over 299 on Tuesday and is in 13th place after two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course.
Kiran Sangha and Ashley Phelps continue to lead the Matadors as each player posted a two-over 74 in round two. All five CSUN players bettered her score from round one to round two as the Matadors matched their low total for 18 holes this season.

Cal Poly (575) fired a team round of 11-under 277 and moved past day one team-leading Sam Houston State (580). Sacramento State (578) moved up to second in the 14-team field. Individually, Cal Poly's Caroline Cantley carries a one-shot lead over Sacramento State's Chloe Grand into Wednesday's final round.Â

"Watched the team notch a lot more birdies today, showing good resilience. Ashley closed it out well with a birdie on the last hole. Always great to see a player grind it out until the end and close it out like that." Â
The Matadors will again be paired with North Dakota for Wednesday's final round which gets underway at 8:10 a.m. local time off the No. 10 tee.

- Sangha, who had two birdies on the day, 12 pars and four bogeys on the day, finished at two-over 74 to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard into 41st at eight-over 152 (78-74).
- Phelps, who also had a pair of birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys, moved up 13 spots into a tie for 42nd at nine-over 153 (79-74).
- Sophomore Julia Johansson also moved up 11 spots with a second round 74 as she tied for the team-high with three birdies. Johansson began the day tied for 72nd before moving into a tie for 61st at 13-over 157 (83-74).
- After an opening-round 80, senior Brianna Steger knocked three strokes off her total Tuesday to finish the day at five-over 77. Steger remains tied for 61st at 13-over 157 (80-77).
- Freshman Grace Bettis rounded out the CSUN scoring as she also finished at five-over 77 and is currently tied for 65th at 16-over 160 (83-77).
