Fluker Reaches 2000; CSUN Rallies Past Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif.—Channon Fluker scored all 18 of her points in the second half to become the ninth Big West women's basketball player to reach the 2,000 career point plateau as CSUN rallied from 10 points down in the second half to defeat Cal State Fullerton 73-64 Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Titans scored the first six points of the game and would shoot 53.9% (16-30) in the first half to take a 41-33 lead at half.
- Trailing 47-37 midway through the third quarter, the Matadors mounted a 14-2 charge that earned CSUN the lead on a De'Jionae Callowauy three-point play 10 seconds into the fourth quarter.
- The Matadors pulled out to a 62-55 lead, their largest of the night with just over four minutes to go in the fourth. The Titans scored the next four to make it a one-possession game. Fluker reached the 2,000 career-point plateau with her second three-pointer of the game at the 2:41 mark.
- At 65-61, Fluker missed from long range, but Eliza Matthews came up with thre rebound. Fluker again missed, but again Matthews got the offensive rebound with 43.6 seconds to play. Cal State Fullerton was forced to foul, sending Hayley Tanabe to the charity stripe. She missed the first attempt, but made the second.
- Cal State Fullerton called timeout. The Titans went down low to Dajea Smith. Smith missed the layup as Tanabe got the rebound. She was fouled and made both of her free throw attempts. Cal State Fullerton again called timeout and advanced for the second consecutive possession.
- Hannah Thompson drove the lane with 35 seconds to go. Thompson made 1-of-2 free throw attempts to cut the score to 67-62. The Matadors called timeout and advanced the ball to half court. A little more than second came off the clock before Fluker was fouled. The 6-4 center made 1-of-2 to increase the advantage to 69-62.
- Jade Vega missed the next time down for the Titans as Fluker got the rebound. After a tie up, CSUN maintained possess. Serafina Maulupe sank a pair of free throws to create a 71-62 score. Free throws in the final 30 seconds made it the final 73-64.
FOR CSUN
- Fluker was limited by foul trouble in the first half and only took three field goal attempts, missing all three. Fluker was 6-of-12 from the floor (2-of-7 from three-point range) in the final 20 minutes. Fluker was 4-of-4 from the free throw line down the stretch. She grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots.
- Fluker has now scored 2,005 career points.
- Maulupe scored a season high 23 points. She was 8-of-14 from the field, and 3-for-5 from three-point range.
- Matthews grabbed a team high and a season best 12 rebounds. She added seven points.
- Saturday's game marked the 17th consecutive victory for the Matadors in the all-time series dating back to Jan. 14, 2011 when Cal State Fullerton defeated the Matadors 75-67 in Fullerton. CSUN has now evened the all-time series at 27.
FOR CAL STATE FULLERTON
- Four Titans scored in double figures, led by Raina Perez who had 14. Daeja Smith had 13 while Amiee Book and Vega both posted 12.
- The Titans were 9-of-29 from the field in the second half to shoot 42.4% (25-of-59) for the game.
- Cal State Fullerton was outrebounded by the Matadors 47-24, 16-9 on the offensive glass.

- "We didn't start the game with the intensity and attention to detail we needed on the defensive end. Serafina was big in the first half, keeping us in the game offensively."
- "In the second half, we did a better job of taking some things away defensively while Channon, Eliza, and De'Jionae did a great job of establishing a lost presence. I am proud of our group of finding a way to get it done."
