FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (11-17, 5-7 BWC) continues down the home stretch of the Big West season this week as the Matadors host UC Riverside on Wednesday night at The Matadome with tip set for 7 p.m. The game will stream live on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health with Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister on the call.
With two weeks left in the regular season, the Matadors can clinch a Big West Tournament spot with a win or Cal Poly loss. Sixth in the conference standings, the Matadors are a game out of fifth place and just one-and-a-half games out of fourth place. UC Irvine still paces the league at 11-1, followed by Cal State Fullerton (9-4), UC Santa Barbara (8-5), Hawai'i (7-6) and UC Davis (6-6). In seventh place is Long Beach State (5-8) followed by UC Riverside (3-9) and Cal Poly (2-10). CSUN already has the tiebreaker over Cal Poly this season and can clinch a tiebreaker over UC Riverside with a win on Wednesday night.
The Matadors snapped a four-game skid on Saturday night with an 81-76 win in overtime over UC Davis. The win was the team's first over the Aggies since 2014, ending an 11-game losing streak. CSUN won its second overtime game of the season, outscoring the Aggies 17-12, led by 11 points from sophomore Terrell Gomez. The league-leader in points per game (76.7), the Matadors surpassed 80 points for the 12th time this season.
Freshman Lamine Diane topped 30 points for a fifth time this season in the win as he finished with 35 points and 11 rebounds. Diane's double-double was his conference-best 16th of the year. Gomez scored 20 points to go with five rebounds while junior Rodney Henderson Jr. added 15 points and five rebounds.
Diane's amazing freshman campaign reached two more milestones in the win over UC Davis. The 6-foot-7 forward broke the Matadors' all-time single-season scoring and field goals made records. Diane now stands at 655 points and 272 field goals made on the year. With 60 blocks this season, Diane is also three blocks away from breaking Tre Hale-Edmerson's record 62 blocks he set in 2013-14. Already this season, Diane has tied the Matadors' Division I record for points in a game with 39 against Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 30. He also tallied 34 points in his collegiate debut, which are the most by a player in their first game with CSUN.
Along with Diane, Gomez is expected to break the Matadors' single-season 3-point field goals made record this week. With 97 3-pointers, Gomez is one behind record-holder Kyle Kerlegan (1990-91). In the CSUN career leaderboard, Gomez has made the fourth-most in team history with 162.
In the NCAA national rankings, Diane is first in the country in field goals made while he is eighth in points per game (24.3) and rebounds per game (10.9). Gomez is ranked eighth in the nation in 3-point field goals made while freshman Darius Brown II is 14th in assists-to-turnover ration (3.0).
CSUN leads the all-time series with UC Riverside, 43-36, and are winners of five of the last seven meetings. The Matadors edged the Highlanders, 84-83, at the SRC Arena. Gomez tallied a career-high 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting including six 3-pointers. The Highlanders handed the Matadors a 69-62 loss at The Matadome last season, led by 18 points from Dikymbe Martin.
