CSUN Completes Sweep Of UC Santa Barbara 6-3

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.---CSUN completed a weekend sweep of UC Santa Barbara Sunday when the Matadors defeated the Gauchos 6-3 in Big West Conference softball action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gator Rascon put the Matadors up 1-0 with a two-out RBI single in the top of the second that scored Haileigh Gonzalez. Â
- Jessica Alexander's squeeze bunt with Mackenzie Babbitt on third in the top of the third was successful, allowing both Babbitt and Maddie Johnson to move up a base and give CSUN a 2-0 lead. A Jaymi Steward sac fly later in the frame created a 3-0 Matador advantage.
- Megan Stevens recorded her 51st RBI of the season with a sac fly in the top of the fourth. Kiarra Crockett-Pope added a two-out RBI single to score Kira Cauley for a 5-0 CSUN lead.
- Matador starter Jillian James retired nine in a row before allowing the first UCSB hit of the game, a one-out fifth inning triple to Maci Fines. Melanie Menor followed with an RBI single to get the Gauchos on the scoreboard.
- Tyler Goldstein doubled to advance Menor to third. Kayla Krantz's sac fly drove in Menor before Genesis Ramirez followed with a double that scored the third UC Santa Barbara run.
- Kenedee Jamerson relieved James to face Sami Fabian. Fabian's infield single gave UCSB runners on the corners. Teah Thies flew out to left to end the Gauchos' threat.
- Babbitt led off the CSUN sixth with a walk. Stevens followed with her 20th double of the season which advanced Babbitt to third. Crockett-Pope struck out before Alexander grounded out to third which allowed Babbitt to score. Gonzalez popped out to end the inning.
- With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Fines reached on a bunt single. Menor followed with a single of her own to bring up the tying run in Goldstein. On a 0-1 count, Jamerson got Goldstein to ground out to first to retire the Gauchos.
- Jamerson pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up her second save of the year.
- Rojas was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Stevens went 2-for-3 while Crockett-Pope was 2-for-4. Fines and Menor both went 2-for-3 for the Gauchos.

- "We played well this weekend. Our communication was strong and seeing the ball and playing as a team. This was a great weekend to build off."
