No. 21/22 CSUN Travels To Portland; Hosts LMU This Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Coming off a week which propelled CSUN into the men's soccer polls, the Matadors take on a pair of West Coast Conference foes this week.
The Matadors (4-1-1) travel to the University of Portland on Friday at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed by the W.tv. The Pilots improved to 3-2-1 after defeating Wisconsin 1-0 last Sunday. Alejandro Pereira scored the game-winner for Portland despite the Pilots playing a man down for over 60 minutes of the match due to a red card.
Pereira paces the Pilots in scoring with two goals and five points. Portland goalies Josh Lagudah and Nico Campuzano have each posted two shutouts and have combined for a 0.48 goals-against average. The duo has combined for 16 saves. This the third meeting between the two clubs with the all-time series tied at one.
CSUN returns home Sunday to host Loyola Marymount. Kick is set for 6 p.m. Live stats are available for the match on GoMatadors.com.
At 4-1, the Lions are ranked 21st in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 and 22nd in the Soccer America Top 25. LMU received 22 votes in the United Soccer Coaches' poll this week. Brandon Sanchez and Francis Avoie share the team lead in points with four. Avoie has scored twice, leading the team in the category.
Jacob Jackson is 4-0 in net for LMU and has made 12 saves. Jackson is tied for the national lead (1.000) in save percentage with three others. He is tied for the national lead with three others for the D-1 lead in goals-against average (0.00). This is the 23rd time that the teams are meeting with CSUN leading the all-time series 11-9-2.
After defeating a nationally-ranked Washington and being edged out by UCLA, the Matadors are ranked in four national polls this week. CSUN is No. 21 in the Soccer America Top 25.
The Matadors reached the top 25 of the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll at No. 22. For the first time since the final poll of 2014, CSUN has climbed into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 at No. 23. Finally, CSUN moved up four spots in the College Soccer News Top 30 to No. 23.
For the second time in three weeks and for the fourth time overall, Daniel Trejo was named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 16. In the matches against Washington and UCLA, Trejo scored three goals and posted an assist.
Coming into this week's matches, Trejo is the Division I leader in points (17) and is tied with three others for the D-1 lead in goals scored (7). Julio Rubio is the national leader in assists (7) and assists per game (1.17).
Johnny Rodriguez is fifth in Division I in total goals (6), sixth in total points (14), and ninth in points per game (2.33). Paul Lewis is eighth in saves per game (22.0) and 27th in total saves (22).
As of Sept. 16, CSUN is second in Division I in assists (26), assists per game (4.0), goals (2), and total points (64). The Matadors are fourth in points per game (10.67) and fourth in scoring offense (3.33).
