Portland Defeats Nationally-Ranked CSUN 3-1

PORTLAND, Ore.—The University of Portland defeated No. 21/23 CSUN 3-1 Friday night in non-conference men's soccer action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· "We missed some opportunities early. It was a 50/50 game throughout and it went Portland's way."

The Matadors (4-2-1), ranked in each of the four collegiate polls with a high of No. 21 in the Soccer America Top 25, host Loyola Marymount (4-1-1) Sunday night. Kick is set for 6 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilots (4-2-1) took the lead in the 22nd minute when Delentz Pierre scored off a Jacobo Reyes corner kick. Despite being outshot by CSUN in the first half 8-4, the Pilots maintained 1-0 halftime lead.
- Portland goalie Nico Campuzano made three saves on the three CSUN shots on goal.
- Rey Oritz increased the Portland lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute when his attempt went in from the right to left from eight yards out.
- The Matadors responded in the 55th minute when CSUN took advantage of a Portland turnover. Daniel Trejo dribbled twice and found Johnny Rodriguez in front where he scored his seventh goal of the season.
- Samuel Dadzie's header off a CSUN corner kick in the 60th minute was punched away by Campuzano. Paul Lewis kept the Pilots' lead at one when he made a diving save of an Alejandro Pereira attempt in the 68th minute.
- Pereira scored an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when he headed in a Reyes free-kick.
- The Matadors outshot the Pilots 14-10, while Portland had five corner kicks, compared to four for CSUN. The Pilots posted seven corner kicks compared to just two for the Matadors. It was a physical match as a total of 49 fouls were called (33 for CSUN, 16 for Portland), while seven yellow cards were issued (4 for CSUN, 3 for Portland).
