No. 22 LMU Defeats No. 21 CSUN 2-0
9/22/2019 9:00:00 PM | Men's Soccer
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—In a match between a pair of nationally-ranked men's soccer teams, No. 22 Loyola Marymount defeated No. 21 CSUN 2-0 Sunday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions got on the board in the 34th minute Narisco Cervantes' blast from the right side of the 18-yard mark went curled back and reached into the top left half of the Matadors' net.
- LMU (5-1-1) scored 4:32 into the second half when Duhaney Williams capitalized on a break in the CSUN defense in front of the Matadors' goal, posting his second goal of the year from five-yards out.
- CSUN would outshoot in the Lions in the second half 13-5 as the Matadors pressed to cut into the Loyola Marymount lead. A three-shot sequence from the 64th to the 67th minutes would see CSUN place the ball high and to the wide right of Lions goalie Jacob Jackson.
- Jackson picked up his fifth win of the year, making five saves on all five CSUN shots on goal. The Matadors held a 19-11 advantage in the shots' department for the match.
- CSUN recorded seven of its eight corner kicks in the second half and would have two more than the Lions for the match, 8-6. The Matadors also held a 61-39 edge in possession of the ball for the night.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
- "We didn't come out with a great rhythm tonight. They took over probably from the 25th minute on and then we gave up an early goal in the first half. We didn't play with the pace and the movement of the ball that I would like. We played very slow on and off the ball. LMU deserves the win."
- CSUN (4-3-1) travels to Omaha (1-4-2) next Friday night. Kick is set for 6 p.m. PDT/8 p.m. CDT. The coverage of the match will be available on GoMatadors.com.
