SAN DIEGO, Calif -The CSUN women's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule this past weekend with a trip to the SDSU Fall Classic I.
Head coach Gary Victor was happy with how his team looked in the opening tournament.Â
"I was pleased how we improved each day and how we are coming together as a team."Â
On day one of the tournament, Ekaterina Repina scored a victory in her Matadors debut by taking down Savannah Sendar of SJSU, 6-4, 6-3 in the Black Bracket. For doubles play on the first day, the newest CSUN tandem of Jacquie Tan and Repina beat Jana Weiss and Natasha Puehse of GCU, 7-5 in the first round of the Red Bracket. Emma Roenholt and freshman Lisa Marie Wurst took home a victory in the White Bracket with a win over Erandi Martinez/ Thanasi Abrahim of UTEP.Â
To wrap-up the day, the freshman duo of Kailen Galazka and Victoria Santibanez scored a win over Grand Canyon's Celina Buhr and Mathilde Lirzin, 6-2 in the Black Bracket.Â
Day two's action was delayed by an hour due to rain, but that didn't stop Repina from scoring another singles victory and moving on to the finals in the Black Singles bracket by defeating Erandi Martinez of UTEP, 6-2, 6-4. Lauren Anderson also moved on to the Grey finals with her win against Mathilde Lirzin of GCU 7-6(10-8), 6-2.Â
