Memorable Matador Moments - Beach Volleyball Tops Oregon for Inaugural Win

After adding beach - then called sand - volleyball as CSUN's 19th intercollegiate sport on Jan. 24, 2014, the Matadors earned a milestone win six years ago today by edging Oregon, 3-2 at USC's Merle Norman Stadium. CSUN completed its first season with a record of 1-9 as Jeff Stork completed the first of his four seasons as head coach.

Against the Ducks, the duo squads of Natalie Allen and Casey Hinger, Sydney Gedryn and Kelcie Randazzo and Brooke Dawson and Julie Haake earned the victories giving CSUN its first-ever win.
In the No. 1 match, Allen and Hinger defeated Natalie Bookout and Canace Finley, 21-15, 21-12 as both Allen and Hinger had 12 kills apiece. It was Allen and Hinger's win the gave the Matadors the team victory. Gedryn and Randazzo won the No. 2 match 21-18, 21-11 over Liz Brenner and Tatum Norton as Gedryn put away 15 kills. In the No. 5 match Dawson and Haake held off Naya Crittenden and Serena Warner 21-18, 21-15 as Haake had 16 kills.
In the other two matches, Marissa Boyd and Mahina Haina fell to Shellsy Ashen and Kacey Nady in the No. 3 match 21-18, 21-14 and Sam Kaul and Steffi Miller lost to Amanda Benson and Marenne Bettendorf 21-19, 21-15 in the No. 4 match.
