CSUN delivered a strong performance to open Friday's competition, defeating Vanguard for the eighth straight time in the all-time series.
The Matadors set the tone right away with a straight-set win as Jill Rodig and Ainsley Patrick defeated Anne Mayfield and Jayden Sterling in the No. 4 pair, 21-17, 21-16. The Lions pulled even on the No. 2 court when Cassy Smits Van Oyen and Hayden Johnston held off Tia Mendiola and Zaria Henderson by the score of 20-22, 21-12, 15-13 to even the dual.
Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert then posted a convincing 21-7, 21-9 on the No. 5 court to put CSUN up 2-1. The Matadors' No. 3 pair of Dylan Hall and Ava Rodgers then won for the ninth time this season, clinching the dual win for CSUN by defeating Jordan Packer and Avery Bennett, 21-7, 21-10.
Vanguard would claim the final point of the dual as Thea Snider and Josephine Springer held off Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles in three sets on the No. 1 court, 17-21, 21-19, 17-15.
Though the sixth pair does not count toward the team score, CSUN capped the morning with another win, as Natalia Brandlin and Phoebe Constable defeated Vanguard in straight sets (25-10, 21-18).

HEAD COACH JEFF HALL SAID
"Two wins today is a good day. We talked about the third set this week and finishing, and we did that today. Â We were the better team in that set today, and the results showed that. Super proud of this team and their resilience."
