SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Oregon (11-10) picked up a pair of 4-1 road wins last Sunday in Portland to improve to 11-10 on the season. The Ducks, who have defeated the Pilots four times over the past week, have now won five straight over, which began with a 3-2 win over the Matadors at the Mustang Roundup in San Luis Obispo on Mar. 14.
Series: Friday's dual match is just the fourth all-time between CSUN and Oregon. The Ducks lead 3-2 in the series after their 3-2 win on Mar. 14. The Matadors earned their first-ever win in beach volleyball over the Ducks in Los Angeles in CSUN's inaugural season in 2014. The two teams also met in Northridge in 2022, with CSUN taking a 4-1 win.
UTEP (7-13) split four dual matches at the Stampede Beach Opener in Tampa, Fla., last weekend. The Miners defeated Sam Houston (5-0) to open the event, before falling to South Florida (4-1) and UAB (5-0). UTEP closed the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Stephen F. Austin. The Miners' Paulina Acuna and Madison Hill have 10 pairs wins on the season.
Series: Friday's dual match is just the second all-time between CSUN and UTEP. The Matadors won the first dual between the two teams in Malibu in 2025, taking a 3-2 win behind wins in the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 pairs.
Santa Clara (11-10) dropped three of its four dual matches at the West Coast Challenge last weekend in Santa Cruz. The Broncos opened with a 5-0 win over Portland before falling to Pepperdine (4-1), No. 8 LMU (5-0), and Saint Mary's (3-2). Santa Clara opened the season with five straight wins before losing to top-ranked Stanford on Feb. 27. Since then, the Broncos 6-9 over their last 15 duals.
Series: Saturday's dual match is the fourth all-time between CSUN and Santa Clara, with the Matadors leading the all-time series, 2-1. The Broncos claimed the first meeting (4-1) in 2016, before CSUN claimed 5-0 wins in both 2020 and 2025.
No. 20 Boise State (9-11) split four dual matches at the Big 12 Preview tournament last weekend. The Broncos defeated No. 20 Arizona (3-2) on Friday before finishing the weekend with a 3-2 win over No. 19 South Carolina. Boise State also fell to No. 5 Florida State (5-0) and No. 7 TCU (5-0) at the event in Fort Worth, Texas. The Broncos come into this week having won 20 consecutive home dual wins, a streak that began in 2020.
Series:Â Saturday's dual between CSUN and Boise State is the sixth all-time, with the Broncos holding a slim 3-2 edge in the series. The Matadors claimed a 3-2 win in the first-ever dual between the two teams in 2015 before Boise State won three straight from 2021-23. CSUN also won 3-2 in the most recent meeting in March 2023 in Northridge.
CSUN CLAIMS A PAIR OF WINS IN IRVINE
The Matadors picked up a pair of dual wins on Friday (Mar. 27), defeating Vanguard, 3-2, and Concordia Irvine, 5-0, at OC Great Park. CSUN opened the day with a tight 3-2 win over the Lions, before blanking the Golden Eagles to avenge a season-opening 3-2 loss at home.
CSUN delivered a strong performance to open Friday's competition, defeating Vanguard for the eighth straight time in the all-time series.
The Matadors set the tone right away with a straight-set win as Jill Rodig and Ainsley Patrick defeated Anne Mayfield and Jayden Sterling in the No. 4 pair, 21-17, 21-16. The Lions pulled even on the No. 2 court when Cassy Smits Van Oyen and Hayden Johnston held off Tia Mendiola and Zaria Henderson by the score of 20-22, 21-12, 15-13 to even the dual.
Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert then posted a convincing 21-7, 21-9 on the No. 5 court to put CSUN up 2-1. The Matadors' No. 3 pair of Dylan Hall and Ava Rodgers then won for the ninth time this season, clinching the dual win for CSUN by defeating Jordan Packer and Avery Bennett, 21-7, 21-10.
Vanguard would claim the final point of the dual as Thea Snider and Josephine Springer held off Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles in three sets on the No. 1 court, 17-21, 21-19, 17-15.
In the second dual of the day, the Matadors rallied with a series of three-set victories to defeat Concordia Irvine, 5-0.
Rodig and Patrick picked up the first of CSUN's five three-set wins to open the scoring. The Matador pair defeated Jordan Vander Veen and Rosie Cline, 13-21, 21-16, 15-10. Mendiola and Henderson got back in the win column at No. 2, also coming back after dropping set one to defeat Aliyah Moore and Teagan Algarra, 11-21, 21-16, 15-11.
Coggins and Halbert then earned a three-set (16-21, 25-23, 15-6) win over Madi Kelly and Emma Hugeback in the No. 5 pair to clinch the dual. Heflin and Miles also went three sets to defeat Concordia for the second time this season, winning 21-19, 13-21, 15-13 in the No. 1 pair. Hall and Rogers then won for the 10th time this season, 16-21, 21-14, 15-8 over Lexi Godbey and Olivia Medina on the No. 3 court.
