CSUN Kicks Off Outdoor Track Season At San Diego Collegiate Challenge

LA JOLLA, Calif.—CSUN opened the outdoor track and field season Saturday at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge

ON THE MEN'S SIDE

The 4x400m relay of Eric Vivanco, Andre Butt, Jaylon Hartdige and DeMarq Jaque finished second by going 3:15.61
Ryan Love's :11.05 in the 100m earned him a fourth-place finish.
The 4x100m relay of Love, Darren Elzie, Ben Hibbert, and Jaque finished fourth in a time of :42.25.
Vivanco placed eighth in the 400m by going :49.76. Hartdige was 10th in the 400m in a personal-best time of :50.27.
Daniel Fendrich (1:57.85) and Noah Contreras (1:58.03) were eighth and ninth respectively in the 800m. Contreras, a freshman, put up a personal-best in the event.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE

Brandy Williams won the shot put with a toss of 51-2 3/4. Her throw was the eighth-best in school history.
Arianna Alexander turned in a third-place showing in the 100m when she sped to a time of :12.38. She came back in the 200m to finish fourth (:25.47).
Alyssa Segovia placed 11th in the 800m as she went 2:22.58. Sonsoles Barba finished 15th in the 400m by running a time of 1:04.29.

ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH JUSTIN JOHNSON

"The team competed well today. We had PR's from James Moore (16th in the 1500m, 4:11.75), Noah Contreras, Jaylon Hartidge and Arianna Alexander. Brandy Williams came away with a big win in the shot. Our men's 4x4 team of Eric, Andre, Jaylon and DeMarq cap off the meet with a great performance with the team rallied around them with lots of energy. We still have a lot of work to do but we started the outdoor season off right."
