Four CSUN Wins Highlight Ben Brown Invite

FULLERTON, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field posted four first-place finishes and a host of personal records at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational from March 12-13.Â
TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS
Tibyasa Matovu won his first 400m event of the outdoor season, sporting a top time of 46.30. Walter Pierce was right behind in second place with a time of 46.70, setting a personal record and posting the fourth-best 400m time in school history. Jayden Smith took 11th-place in the event with his time of 48.66 followed by Terence Williams in 15th place at 49.38.Â
Matovu completed a strong weekend by taking third place in the 200m race with a time of 21.14. Pierce was the next fastest runner in the event, finishing fifth with a PR of 21.19 while Daniel Harper was eighth at 21.42.Â
In the 3000m-steeplechase, Ramiro Mateos claimed first place with a time of 9:41.62. In the five-athlete field, Diego Rodriguez was second with a time of 9:41.85 while Omar Heredia took fourth at 10:36.08.Â
Raul Verges was second in the 1500m race, clocking a time of 3:54.65 with Ja'Patrick Smith not far behind at 3:56.28, setting a PR and finishing in fourth place. Darrick Jacob, Jr. also set a PR of 4:01.64 to come in 14th place.Â
In the discus, Elijah Ignacio finished as runner-up, taking second with a mark of 54.11m (177-6). In third was Isaiah Butler, setting a PR of 50.96m (167-2) followed by Tui Edwin in 12th place with his toss of 44.03m (144-5).Â
David Stingle recorded another strong showing in the javelin, taking third place with a mark of 60.47m (198-4). In other throwing events, Tylor Connelly was fourth in the hammer throw with his PR of 59.99m (196-10) followed by Butler who also set a PR of 55.51m (182-1) to take eighth place. Ignacio was the top Matador thrower in the shot put, finishing fourth overall with a toss of 16.60m (54-5.5) while Edwin was eighth at 15.32m (50-3.25) and Francisco Isiordia was 11th at 14.89m (48-10.25).Â
In the 800m, Adam Divnity set a PR with the eighth-fastest time in school history at 1:50.51 to finish in fourth place.Â
Finally, in jump events, Ayidan Bague and Layne Buck tied for fourth place in the long jump, each posting a mark of 7.07m (23-2.5). Jay Louison-Roe followed in seventh place at 6.83m (22-5) and Tzu-Ting Chan was tied for ninth place at 6.72m (22-0.75).Â
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Sophomore Ashleigh Porter came out on top in the high jump, setting a PR at 1.71m (5-7.25). The event win is the first of her Matador career.Â
CSUN would sweep the 3000m-steeplechase as Lilit Arakelyan was first in the event with her time of 11:13.80. That time checked in as the fourth-best time in CSUN history. Savannah Ganter finished second in the event, posting a time of 11:35.09.Â
In the discus, Katherine Shipp-Davis finished as runner up with her best throw reaching 50.39m (165-4) while Amani Britton took sixth place with a mark of 48.28m (158-4). Treasure Brown also was 13th in the event at 41.21m (135-2).Â
Brown would be the top Matador in the shot put, placing second overall with a PR of 14.27m (46-10). Brown finished fifth, setting a PR of her own of 13.49m (44-3.25). Shipp-Davis followed in 12th place with her toss of 12.41m (40-8.75).Â
Camryn Harris took second place in the triple jump by registering a mark of 12.00m (39-4.5).Â
In sprints, Serena Grace would run a time of 55.56 in the 400m to take fifth place. Makyla Jones followed behind in ninth place as she set a PR of 56.43 while Trystin Mitchell finished in 14th place at 56.88.Â
Amaya Rice was seventh in the 200m race, setting a PR of 24.29 while Grace was 10th in the event at 24.36 and Jones was 12th at 24.43.Â
OTHER MATADOR PERFORMANCES
CSUN returns to action in two weekends at USC's Ron and Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational and UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Jim Bush Legends Meet. The two meets will take place from March 27-28.Â

- Jeremiah Harris led the Matadors in the men's 100m with a PR time of 10.61 to place sixth. Harper was 10th in the event, clocking a time of 10.65 and Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. was 20th at 10.87.Â
- In the men's triple jump, Bague took sixth place with his leap of 14.62m (47-11.75).Â
- Elijah Stenberg was eighth in the men's 5000m race after setting a PR of 14:33.58. Cesar Cuevas took 17th place in the event with a PR of 14:43.35 and Divinity was 19th at 14:45.07.Â
- In the women's 1500m, Ami Jacobson set a PR of 4:47.89 to finish ninth overall. Sakura Divecchio was 13th in the event, running at 4:52.18. In other distance races, Brianna Torres took 13th place in the women's 5000m with a time of 17:54.73 while Nadia Munoz finished 14th with her time of 18:04.28.Â
- Amaya Rice was 10th in the women's 100m after running a time of 11.91 followed closely by Hannah Bridge in 11th place at 11.92.Â
- In the field events, Chandler Smith placed 12th in the women's long jump at 5.22m (17-1.5) and Anna Negulic was 18th at 5.07m (16-7.75). Jocelyn Hoggard finished 15th in the women's hammer throw by tossing at 44.75m (146-10).Â
- Finally in the women's 800m, Kahlai Cruser placed 20th with a time of 2:21.37.Â
