COACH SUSIE TERRUSA SAID
"I thought we battled tonight against a very physical Long Beach State team but we need to continue to work on minimizing our errors. Our young players continue to improve as they gain valuable on-court playing experience."
FIRST SET
Long Beach State got off to a blistering start, hitting .481 to CSUN's .000 in the first set to cruise to a 25-11 win. The Beach jumped out to a 10-4 lead and extended the lead to 10 (16-6) following a Katie Kennedy kill. The Matadors could not cut into the Long Beach lead by more than 10 points the remainder of the set.
SECOND SET
After dropping the first three points, CSUN used a 4-1 run to knot the score at 15-15 following a co-block from Klungel and Taylor Hunter. But a 4-0 by the Beach boosted the Long Beach State to 19-15. A service error on the ensuing point trimmed the lead to 19-16 and the Matadors would close to within two (22-20) before Long Beach claimed the final three points of a 25-20 win.
THIRD SET
Needing a win to stay in the match, the Matadors used a 5-1 run to snap a 12-12 tie. After a Macias kill gave CSUN a 17-13 lead, the Beach battled back to within two at 17-15. Another Macias kill boosted the lead back to three at 18-15 and the Matadors would pull away to take the third set, 25-20.
FOURTH SET
After Long Beach State was called for a setting error giving the Matadors a 9-7 lead, the Beach used a 5-1 run to take a 12-10 lead and never looked back. Long Beach held the lead the rest of the way and won the set and match, 25-20.
