The Titans improve to 10-13 overall and 7-9 in the Big West with the win while the loss drops the Matadors to 5-21 overall and 4-12 in conference play. The 3-1 setback was CSUN's 13th four-set loss in 14 matches this season.

COACH SUSIE TERRUSA SAID
"We played a good first set and really battled in sets three and four. Our defense put us in position to potentially win at the end but ultimately we committed too many errors at the end of sets."
FIRST SET
CSUN led 13-9 following a Titan service error before Fullerton rallied for a 14-13 lead. The two teams then traded sideouts until an ace by Barron was followed by an Orshoff kill giving CSUN a 22-20 lead. A pair of Matador errors knotted the score before Orshoff answered with consecutive kills giving CSUN set point at 24-22. After the hosts saved set point following a timeout, Anderson connected for a kill and the Matadors took the opening set 25-23.
SECOND SET
After hitting .200 in the opening set, the Matadors hit -.043 in dropping the second set 25-13. After CSUN opened the set with three straight points, the hosts claimed seven of the next 11 points to knot the score at 7-7. From that point on it was all Titans as they scored nine consecutive points to open up a 16-7 cushion. The Matadors would get as close as seven at 17-10 and again at 20-13 before Fullerton scored five straight to close out a 25-13 win.
THIRD SET
The Matadors trailed 6-4 in the early going when Barron's kill from the setter spot cut the deficit to 6-5. But a 6-1 run by the Titans forced a CSUN timeout with the Matadors trailing 12-6. After a Nevarez kill kept CSUN within five (12-7), Fullerton engineered a 6-3 run to lead by eight at 18-10. An ensuing Orshoff kill fueled a 4-0 run by the Matadors that temporarily cut the lead to 18-14 before two straight points by the Titans forced a CSUN timeout at 20-14. The Matadors again pulled within four at 20-16 and again at 22-18 when a Bradford ace was followed by an Anderson kill forcing a Titans timeout at 22-20. CSUN would pull within one at 22-21 and 23-22 before a Matador hitting error and a Fullerton ace sent the hosts to the 25-22 win.
FOURTH SET
Needing a win to stay in the match and force a fifth set, CSUN fell behind 6-1 at the outset. Still down 7-2, the Matadors rallied to knot the score at 9-9 behind a 7-2 run. A Titan hitting error gave CSUN its first lead at 11-10 before three straight Fullerton points put the Titans back in front 13-11. Trailing 15-13, an Orshoff kill sent the Matadors on a 6-3 run that put CSUN on top 19-18. After the hosts scored two straight to take a 20-19 lead, Anderson answered tying the score at 20-20. But the Matadors scored just twice more the rest of the way as the Titans pulled away for the 25-22 win.
UP NEXT
CSUN returns home next week to open up a three-match homestand against UC Riverside on Friday, Nov. 19. The homestand, which also has the Matadors hosting UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara, wraps up the 2021 Matadome schedule before CSUN closes the season Nov. 26 at Hawai'i.
