Fresno State Defeats CSUN 6-1 In Tennis Action

FRESNO, Calif.—Fresno State defeated CSUN 6-1 in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (7-3) began the meet by winning at No. 1 doubles as Deniza Marcinkevica and Dalia Ahmed defeated Jolene Coetzee and Ana Fraile Toboso 6-4. A.C. Hummel and Cristina Flaquer clinched the doubles point when they handed Magdalena Hedrzak and Jenna Dorian a 6-3 defeat at No. 3. Doubles concluded when Carla Nonnis Marzano and Carolina Piferi defeated Jacquie Tan and Sasha Turchak 6-3 in the No. 2 match.
Hedrzak posted the lone Matador victory when she earned a straight sets victory (6-1, 6-2) at No. 4 singles against Piferi. Ahmed improved to 10-0 on the year in singles when she defeated Coetzee 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Hummel won in straight sets against Turchak (6-3, 6-3) at No. 5 followed by a Marcinkevica 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 3 versus Tan. Flaquer won 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles match against Fraile Toboso. The dual concluded at No. 6 when Ella Husrefovic edged Dorian 6-4, 7-5.
"Minus Kat (Repina) we needed to convert more game points to have a chance to pull this out," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "We competed hard amid tough than usual circumstances. We will regroup for a big week ahead."
CSUN (1-2, 0-1 Big West) hosts Sacramento State (1-11) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before welcoming Santa Clara (2-4) to Northridge on Saturday for an 11 a.m. start. The week concludes with a Big West matchup against UC Davis (2-6, 0-2 Big West) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and Sunday's meets will be streamed on BigWest.tv beginning with the first serve.
